COVID-19 Food Security Initiative

In April 2020 KNOX launched the initiative to boost efforts to improve food security in Hartford. The goal is to leverage the resources of KNOX, including 20 community gardens in Hartford, to help those in Hartford facing challenges accessing healthy food. These efforts include:

  • Providing free garden space to those who need it (especially those disproportionately affected by COVID-19),
  • Distributing of vegetable seeds and seedlings to the community,
  • Engaging volunteers in growing food to donate through Foodshare and Hands on Hartford,
  • Growing vegetable seedlings and food to give away,
  • Creating on-line content to encourage and help new gardeners, and
  • Encouraging people growing fresh produce to donate some of their harvest.
