Job Title:  Volunteer & Education Manager

The mission of KNOX is to use horticulture as a catalyst for community engagement – forging partnerships between residents, businesses, and government, providing leadership to build stronger, greener, and healthier and more beautiful neighborhoods in Hartford.

The Volunteer & Education Manager connects students, community members, and volunteer groups to opportunities that help green and beautify the city of Hartford. The position will focus on the implementation and expansion of the environmental education program as well as the cultivation of volunteer opportunities managed and supported by KNOX.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 Program Development

  • Create opportunities for program expansion both with volunteers and environmental education.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to identify internal volunteer opportunities.
  • Engage students, staff, and volunteers in supporting education programming designed to provide 1,000 students an opportunity to connect with the natural world.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of school gardens and community garden plots utilized by the environmental education program.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with schools and community groups to support KNOX programs and meet needs in the community.
  • Manage implementation of environmental educational program curriculum and lead efforts to improve curriculum effectiveness.

 Program Tracking and Evaluation

  • Manage volunteer engagement and environmental education budget and expenses with the support of the Director of Programs.
  • Track monthly program deliverables for volunteer engagement and environmental education.
  • Input and manage volunteer data in DonorPerfect.
  • Oversee implementation of program evaluation processes.

 Partnerships & Outreach

  • Lead, coordinate and support volunteer projects from inception to completion. Including but not limited to Hartford Cleans Up and Green Team efforts.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to other organizations implementing KNOX education curriculum (partnerships, selections, etc).
  • Conduct outreach to individuals and groups to engage them in various KNOX programs, based on their interests.
  • Empower community groups interested in community greening by connecting them to the knowledge and resources of KNOX.
  • Manage special projects with partners and schools.

 Organizational Support

  • Provide staffing and support to organizational events such as KNOX Golf Tournament, Juneteenth Celebration, and Harvest Market.
  • Match volunteers with program and organizational projects that support the KNOX mission.
  • Assist other program staff with engaging volunteers effectively in their programming.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Commitment to KNOX’s mission and to fostering a culture of teamwork and respect.
  • At least 2 years of volunteer management and onboarding experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with schools and or youth organizations.
  • Experience supervising program participants in a school setting.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective computer and software skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience collaborating on highly performing teams.
  • Ability to present information effectively, both verbally and in writing.
